Statistics Tutorials Based on SPSSÔ and Minitab®
The following list presents a set of tutorials, with each tutorial presented in three general formats, depending on the selected operating system and software:
Tutorials that are based on SPSS-X were prepared in text format, using the UNIX operating system. These tutorials are quite informative in terms of hard coding, but I also recognize that few people do their own coding these days! These tutorials are available now.
Tutorials that are based on SPSS for Windows were prepared using the graphical features of this highly interactive program. These tutorials use the same problem sets and data sets as the UNIX-based tutorails, but you will notice that the emphasis here is on a point-and-click approach toward attempting the statistical analyses. Of course, you need to know just what to select when given a long list of graphical choices, and that is when you may find it best to use the services of a consultant to guide this level of decision-making. These tutorials will be available on or about January 1, 2005.
Tutorials that are based on Minitab for Windows were prepared using the graphical features of this highly interactive program. These tutorials use the same problem sets and data sets as the UNIX-based and Windows-based SPSS tutorials, but again you will notice that the emphasis here is on a point-and-click approach toward attempting the statistical analyses. Again, you need to know just what to select when given a long list of graphical choices, and that is when you may find it best to use the services of a consultant to guide this level of decision-making. Even so, you may find Minitab useful: it is generally quite easy to use on your own, but the detail on program output may not be as rich as you may prefer. These tutorials will be available on or about January 1, 2005.
Let me know how I can assist you in the areas of institutional research, statistics, and computer science education.
